Christmas Eve 2009 is a day I will never forget. I should have seen it coming. Marriage had been a frequent topic of discussion. He even let me pick out the ring- back in May. Even still, he managed to make our engagement a complete and wonderful surprise. We had spent the day running here and there visiting various friends and family, and looking back, I could tell he was up to something. The first clue should have been that his normal super hero t-shirt had been replaced by a nice button up dress shirt. After we had visited with everyone, we headed to his house and watched a movie. Around 6, he said to me, "You know, when you're a kid, Christmas Eve takes forever." I just thought he was excited about Christmas. Around 7, his parents called to say their truck had broken down and they needed a tool from the house. So we hurried to head to their rescue, or I at least that's what I thought. I tried to ask him what was wrong with the truck, to which he responded, "Oh, it's just a hose or something." I was starting to put the pieces together, especially when he said they had made it to the parking lot of our high school, where we had met. By the time we turned in, I had the biggest smile on my face. When he parked, I covered my face to keep from crying. My parents appeared from the side of the building, with umbrellas and cameras, as he guided me to the exact spot he had once asked for my phone number. He got down on one knee, and said those four words I had been dreaming of, "Will You Marry Me?". Of course, I said yes, and held on tight to enjoy the moment.
